The science of psychology contributes to society through various means, enhancing and enriching our lives in many different ways. The knowledge base of psychology is important for today's societies in order to better understand human needs in many fields and to come up with more effective approaches. There is always a need for psychologists in many areas such as; in deeply understanding the social phenomena in our environment, increasing productivity or job satisfaction in the workplace, the evaluation and treatment of individuals who need psychological support, increasing the motivation and success of athletes, the evaluation and rehabilitation of people involved in crime, or the detection of cognitive functions lost by an individual who had a serious accident.
As a science, psychology examines cognitive, emotional and behavioral processes. Psychology has many basic subfields such as developmental psychology, experimental psychology, social psychology, clinical psychology and industrial-organizational psychology, as well as applied subfields such as health psychology, forensic psychology, neuropsychology, sport psychology, and traffic psychology. A person who is educated in psychology should have knowledge about the basic subfields of psychology before the applied areas and gain research and statistical knowledge. After completing their four year education, psychology students can specialize in one of the subfields they are interested in and think that they will be successful at by receiving their master's degree. Those who want to work in the field can become practitioners or continue their education and become researchers or academicians.
Acıbadem University, Department of Psychology was founded in the 2013-2014 academic year and aims to provide the highest level of educational opportunities to its students. In line with this purpose, our department has kept its education and training standards high and has been accredited in 2021 for five years by the Turkish Psychologists Association which was given the accreditation authority by the Council of Higher Education. In the upcoming years, our department aims to be among the prominent and prestigious psychology departments in our country, with its academic staff who believe in ethical and scientific principles, teach in their fields of expertise, as well as its strong infrastructure opportunities.
As Acıbadem University, Psychology Department, our aim is to provide our students with a strong educational background regarding the basic theories and methods of psychology, and to train students who can effectively use their knowledge and thinking skills on human-related issues. Our department has an experienced academic staff who have completed their education in prestigious universities in Turkey and abroad and have gained expertise in their fields. Our students also have the opportunity to participate in research projects in the different subfields of psychology under the guidance of our faculty members, and thus develop both their academic and practical competencies.
Our curriculum, which has a rich pool of elective courses, aims to support the career development of our students by giving them the opportunity to get to know different subfields of psychology. Also, our department offers the opportunity to get a minor and double major degree with Departments of Sociology and Healthcare Management. Moreover our Clinical Psychology Master's program, which was launched in 2016, continues its education with the aim of training competent experts to the field.

"Psikoloji bilimi birçok yolla topluma katkıda bulunur ve yaşamımıza farklı düzeylerde dokunarak geliştirir; zenginleştirir. Psikoloji biliminin bilgi birikimi birçok alanda insanın ihtiyaçlarını daha iyi anlamak ve daha etkili yaklaşımlar belirlemede bugünün toplumları için önemlidir. Çevremizdeki toplumsal olguları derinlemesine kavramada; çalışılan işyerinde iş verimliliğini ya da iş tatminini arttırmada; psikolojik desteğe ihtiyaç duyan bireylerin değerlendirilmesi ve tedavisinde; sporcuların motivasyon ve başarılarını arttırmada ya da suça karışmış kişilerin değerlendirilme ve rehabilitasyonunda; ağır bir kaza geçirmiş bireyin yitirdiği bilişsel işlevlerin tespitindeki gibi daha pek çok alanda hep psikologlara ihtiyaç vardır.
Bir bilim olarak psikoloji bilişsel, duygusal ve davranışsal süreçleri inceler. Psikolojinin gelişim psikolojisi, deneysel psikoloji, sosyal psikoloji, klinik psikoloji ve endüstri-örgüt psikolojisi gibi pek çok temel alt bilim dalı; aynı zamanda sağlık psikolojisi, adli psikoloji, nöropsikoloji, spor psikolojisi ve trafik psikolojisi gibi uygulamalı alt dalı vardır. Psikoloji biliminde eğitim alan bir kişinin uygulamalı alanlardan önce psikolojinin temel alanları hakkında bilgi sahibi olması; araştırma ve istatistik bilgisi edinmesi gerekir. Daha sonra psikoloji öğrencileri dört yıllık eğitimlerinin üzerine yüksek lisanslarını yaparak ilgi duydukları ve başarılı olacaklarını düşündükleri alanlardan birinde uzmanlaşabilirler. İsteyenler alanda çalışıp uygulamacı olabilir ya da eğitimlerine devam edip araştırmacı veya akademisyen olabilirler.
Acıbadem Üniversitesi Psikoloji Bölümü 2013-2014 öğretim yılında kurulmuş, öğrencilerine en üst düzeyde eğitsel olanaklar sağlamayı hedefleyen bir bölümdür. Bu hedef doğrultusunda bölümümüz eğitim-öğretim standartlarını yüksek tutarak 2021 yılında YÖK tarafından akreditasyon yetkisi verilmiş olan Türk Psikologlar Derneği tarafından beş yıl süreyle akredite edilmiştir. Önümüzdeki yıllarda da, etik ve bilimsel ilkelere inanan, kendi uzmanlık alanlarında dersler veren akademik personeli ve güçlü altyapı olanaklarıyla ülkemizde önde gelen ve saygın psikoloji bölümleri arasında yer almayı hedeflemektedir.
Acıbadem Üniversitesi Psikoloji Bölümü olarak amacımız, öğrencilerimize psikolojinin temel kuram ve yöntemlerine yönelik güçlü bir eğitim altyapısı sunmak, insanı ilgilendiren konularda bilgi birikimi ve düşünme yeteneğini etkin bir şekilde kullanabilen öğrenciler yetiştirmektir. Bölümümüzde, Türkiye ve yurt dışındaki saygın üniversitelerde eğitimlerini tamamlayarak alanlarında uzmanlık kazanmış deneyimli bir akademik kadro bulunmaktadır. Öğrencilerimiz, öğretim üyelerimizin danışmalığında farklı uzmanlık alanlarında araştırma projelerine de katılma imkanı bulmakta ve bu sayede hem akademik hem de uygulamaya yönelik yetkinliklerini geliştirebilmektedirler.
Zengin bir seçmeli ders havuzuna sahip olan ders müfredatımız öğrencilerimizin psikolojinin farklı alanlarını tanımalarına fırsat vererek kariyer gelişimlerini desteklemeyi hedeflemektedir. Bölümümüzde ayrıca Sağlık Yönetimi, Sosyoloji ve Moleküler Biyoloji ve Genetik bölümleri ile Yan Dal ve Çift Ana Dal yapma imkanı bulunmaktadır. 2016 yılında hayata geçen Klinik Psikoloji Yüksek Lisans programımız ise alana yetkin uzmanlar yetiştirme hedefiyle eğitime devam etmektedir."
