The mission of Acıbadem University Faculty of Pharmacy is to train pharmacists at international standards who have been well-educated, are creative, and dedicated to research and development. We aim for our graduate pharmacists to become highly sought after in every field of pharmaceutical sciences in medical industries and hospitals in Turkey and around the world.

Our students benefit from learning in the laboratories of Acıbadem University Faculty of Pharmacy which are equipped with state of the art technology as well as Acıbadem Healthcare Group hospitals and outpatient clinics located not just in Istanbul, but in a variety of regions in Turkey.

Our experience academic staff closely follows scientific developments. Their devoted contributions to their students as well as the interactive, innovative education models they implement enables students to have full knowledge in all areas of pharmaceutical sciences (academic, medical industry, hospital, independent pharmacy) and competence to work in them. Throughout the education of the students, the faculty aims to work in collaboration with the medical industry, and to contribute to the development of the medical industry in Turkey by using all available resources.

The Faculty also aims to undertake research and development for the development of herbal, dermatological and cosmetic products as well as to design scientific studies which could result in the development of a product. The Faculty vows to undertake all these responsibilities and share all the processes and procedures associated with them with their students.

Biomedical Engineering

Biomedical Engineering is a branch of engineering which focuses on the development, production and efficient use of instruments and biomaterials used in diagnosis, treatment and research for problems faced by the healthcare sector. Biomedical Engineering is an interdisciplinary field which works in conjunction with medicine, biology, physics, chemistry, as well as various fields of engineering including mechanical, electrical and IT. With the support of our strong Faculty of Medicine, the Health Sciences academic staff, Center of Advanced Simulation and Education (CASE), as well as the campus equipped with state of the art technology, our program aims to train Biomedical Engineers who are competent in their field. This branch of engineering, whose fundamental aim is to develop technological solutions for healthcare and which combines academic sciences with clinical and industrial fields, is developing rapidly resulting in an increasing need for Biomedical Engineers.

The Department of Biomedical Engineering works in direct collaboration with CASE. This center, which is a virtual hospital setting, features many of the medical equipment used in hospitals as well as medical simulators. In recent years, smart materials, mathematical modelling and the designs for medical simulation systems have begun to gain importance. Therefore, the Department of Biomedical Engineering is committed to train engineers who have the skills to be able to evaluate real problems and to design and produce solutions for them.

Computer Engineering

Acıbadem University Faculty of Engineering Department of Computer Engineering aims to pioneer the developments in the field of technology and especially the inventions based on big data.

Our department offers a wide range of education and research opportunities that will provide future computer engineers with general big data science skills, as well as more specialized skills ranging from information networks and social media analysis to the design of smart search engines, from bioinformatics to deep learning and artificial intelligence.

Molecular Biology and Genetics

The branch of Molecular Biology and Genetics has emerged as a result of the advances made particularly in the fields of genetics, biochemistry and cell biology. It is one of the fastest growing branches of science of the century and is frequently referenced. All modern biotechnological products have been developed on the basis of knowledge generated by molecular biology and genetic engineering practices.

Students are offered inter-disciplinary observation, research and practice opportunities thanks to the “Acıbadem Healthcare Group” companies, which are leaders in the healthcare sector in Turkey, the school of medicine, the vocational school of higher education, hospitals as well as its developed clinical laboratories including genetic, molecular genetics, biochemistry, microbiology, and stem cell laboratories. Thanks to the driving force of this science, the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics is an important starting point for students who are to be trained to become scientists who invent and research, develop and apply.

Qualified specialists in the field of Molecular Biology and Genetics in Turkey are limited in number. In a world which is global in its approach to science, the department is committed to training researchers who aim to be a part of inter-university information and collaboration. With this aim, we support international student exchange programs and study opportunities and experiences overseas and encourage students to participate in national and international congresses. Students are also encouraged to enroll in post-graduate programs at leading universities in the US and Europe which will assist in contributing to the training of scientists (researchers with a PhD) needed by Turkey.

The opening of the “Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics” at our university will serve to increase Turkey’s international recognition and its knowledge in this field. The department will also contribute to bridge the human resource gap for competent, qualified people in the national healthcare sector. The distinctive feature of the department is that in addition to the opportunities for scientific research, it predominantly supports the facilities of clinical practices therefore enabling students to benefit from the facilities of both Acıbadem University and Acıbadem Healthcare Group. The state of the art laboratory facilities and physical infrastructure enables us to conduct prominent research at a global level, particularly in the field of healthcare. Students who complete their education will be qualified to work as researchers in corporations and private institutions such as universities and research centers. They will be competent to work in diagnosis and treatment centers of genetic diseases and schools of medicine as well as fields which require biotechnology such as food and agriculture, and many laboratories including transgenic animal breeding.

Sociology          

Degree : Bachelor (BA)

The Department of Sociology of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Acıbadem University opened in the 2016-2017 academic year. The course program is compatible with the sociology courses offered at other universities in Turkey and in Western countries. Much importance is placed on this compatibility in order for students, particularly post-graduate students, not to encounter any obstacles in their education. The program is taught in English which is advantageous for students who wish to participate in student exchange possibilities. Additionally, it helps students benefit from world literature and to undertake their post-graduate studies abroad should they wish to do so.

Sociology is a member of the social sciences family. In order for students to truly grasp the concept of sociology, they need to be familiar with the relation between sociology and social sciences, the common and different ground, and the opportunities for collaboration. The department offers compulsory and elective lessons in all the fields of social sciences in order to meet this requirement.

Each year, students are offered a comprehensive range of compulsory and elective lessons which guides research knowledge and experience. It is aimed for students to have a full comprehension of the methodology of social sciences, to learn research techniques and ethics, and to develop the conduct and skills required for field study. With the support of the academic staff, students are encouraged to carry out research in a variety of societal settings, to participate in congresses and similar events.

Sociology education does not include a mandatory period of internship; however, voluntary internships for students to familiarize themselves with a variety of fields of work are encouraged and supported. It is highly regarded for students to explore the opportunities available to them while working as a sociologist particularly in health institutions, social work and non-profit organizations.

A unique aspect of the department is that students are offered a wide range of elective courses and research opportunities in order for them to become fully acquainted with social sciences and, in particular, with health sociology. The field of health social sciences is an area of research and practice which has developed rapidly since the 1980s. Acıbadem University also supports the development of this field. It is desired for the students to take their place as young trailblazers in the development of the field in Turkey.

Sociology education can be considered a process which increases sensitivity to social, cultural and humanitarian facts. This department is committed to training young people who are sensitive to the country in which they live, the world, who are knowledgeable, intellectual and responsible.

Psychology

As a science, psychology examines cognitive, emotional and behavioral processes. Psychology has many basic subfields such as developmental psychology, experimental psychology, social psychology, clinical psychology and industrial-organizational psychology, as well as applied subfields such as health psychology, forensic psychology, neuropsychology, sport psychology, and traffic psychology. A person who is educated in psychology should have knowledge about the basic subfields of psychology before the applied areas and gain research and statistical knowledge. After completing their four year education, psychology students can specialize in one of the subfields they are interested in and think that they will be successful at by receiving their master's degree.

Acıbadem University Department of Psychology has been providing education at the highest level in the basic fields of psychology since 2013, providing extensive activities such as the evaluation and treatment of human emotions, behaviors and relationships, as well as recruitment processes, increasing work efficiency, planning educational activities, advertising and marketing, athlete motivation and criminology. It trains qualified professionals in the field of Psychology.
