Neuroscience is a multidisciplinary field of science with various branches of medicine such as: anatomy, histology, physiology, biochemistry, genetics, pharmacology, neurology, neurosurgery, psychiatry, radiology and different non-medical science fields such as: molecular biology, chemistry, physics, psychology and engineering and computer sciences having an important part within it. Neuroscience studies and investigates the nervous system from structural, developmental, evolutionary, functional and medical aspects. Examples of the important topics of research within neuroscience are: the macro and micro anatomy of peripheral and central nervous system, the brain, sensory systems, neurons, synaptic structures, neurotransmitters, neuromodulators, neural connections, networks, vision, hearing, pain, language, learning, memory, and finally cognition.
Neuroscientists conduct research in topics of neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, neurochemistry, neuropharmacology, neuroimaging, neurotechnology, developmental neuroscience, social neuroscience, neuroscience philosophy, understanding the causes of neurological and psychiatric diseases, and drug development.
Neuroscience is a branch of science where very important and exciting developments are experienced all over the world and in our country. Leading countries in science have announced special programs [such as, the BRAIN Initiative (USA), the European Union's Human Brain Project (EU), the China Brain Project (China)] and have created large funds for these researches. Advancements and developments in research within the field of neuroscience are expected in the upcoming years.
In our country, in parallel with these important developments in the world, neuroscience research is one of the priority areas where great developments are expected, and there is a need for competent scientists who will conduct high-level research within the field. Acıbadem Mehmet Ali Aydınlar University has a very competent academic staff, working in the field of neuroscience and with a well-equipped modern research laboratory. With the help of the neuroscience PhD program, our university aims to contribute to the training of competent scientists who will work in this particular field of research.
