Human lives and experiences differ according to the time they live in, spatial dynamics, social structure, the pattern of power relations, or socio-economic conditions. Sociology is a discipline that aims to make sense of how people's actions and experiences are shaped by focusing on the social relations they form, the societies in which they live, and the broader cultures. In our department, we aim to train competent sociologists who have critical thinking skills, are sensitive to social inequalities and problems, respect diversity, and can contribute to the development of social welfare without ignoring the ecological environment. We aim for our students to comprehend social events and phenomena in depth using scientific methods. To this end, we guide them to gain theoretical equipment, methodological competence, and interdisciplinary perspective as well as develop their sociological imagination.
The courses offered in our department allow students to develop social research design, analytical thinking, academic writing, and effective oral communication skills. Our graduates can continue their academic careers in social sciences, especially sociology, as well as work in various roles such as sociologists, researchers, and project managers in public and private sector organisations, non-governmental organisations, media, and research companies. Our students can receive education by participating in Minor and Double Major programs with the departments of Health Management, Psychology, Molecular Biology, and Genetics. Our department, which is structured within the framework of international academic standards, has registered its academic quality with FEDEK accreditation.
