Conference on "Nursing Philosophy and Values" Held

The “Nursing Philosophy and Values” conference, organized by the Social and Scientific Activities Commission of the Department of Nursing, Faculty of Health Sciences, Acıbadem Mehmet Ali Aydınlar University, was held on October 30, 2025, at the Acıbadem Mehmet Ali Aydınlar University Conference Hall.

The opening speech of the event was delivered by Prof. Dr. Ükke Karabacak, Head of the Department of Nursing. In her remarks, Prof. Dr. Karabacak emphasized that the philosophical foundations and professional values of nursing are essential elements that guide nursing practice.

Following the opening, Prof. Dr. Merdiye Şendir, Advisor to the Rector of the University of Health Sciences and Head of the Department of Fundamentals of Nursing, gave a presentation titled “Nursing Philosophy and Values.”

In her talk, Prof. Dr. Şendir shared the updated definition of “nurse” and “nursing” introduced by the International Council of Nurses (ICN). She underlined that nursing philosophy represents the core element shaping the profession’s purpose and care perspective, while nurses’ professional values serve as a guiding compass in protecting the health of individuals, families, and communities.

Throughout the event, participants discussed how the theoretical foundations of nursing knowledge integrate with professional identity development and ethical values. The interactive session, enriched with questions from the audience, addressed the ethical, humanistic, and professional dimensions of nursing in a multidimensional way.

With a total of 159 participants, the conference provided nursing students and academicians with an opportunity to reflect on the philosophical principles of their profession and gain new perspectives for shaping the future of nursing.
