As part of the March 14th Medical Day program, Acıbadem University hosted the “Istanbul Seririyatı (1919-1952): Medical Periodical Exhibition,” a significant contribution to the history of medicine and medical publishing. Organized under the coordination of Prof. Fatih Artvinli, a faculty member of the Department of History of Medicine and Ethics at the Faculty of Medicine, the exhibition attracted great interest from academics and students interested in the history of healthcare.
First published in 1919 and issued monthly for 33 years, Istanbul Seririyatı comprises 389 issues and over 10,000 pages. It is regarded as a unique resource that chronicles medical practices and healthcare developments during the transition from the Ottoman Empire to the Republic of Turkey. This valuable publication holds critical importance in understanding and preserving medical history for future generations.
The program, held on March 14, 2025, in Hall A-203, featured a panel discussion titled “Medical Periodicals in Turkey” in addition to the exhibition. The panel, moderated by Fatih Artvinli and featuring Cem Hakan Başaran and Betül Yalçıner as speakers, explored the historical evolution of medical publishing and the role of Istanbul Seririyatı in this process. Following the panel, attendees had the opportunity to visit the exhibition during a coffee break and gain in-depth insights into the publication.
The event continued with a discussion session featuring İlker Küçükparlak and Fatih Artvinli. The program concluded with an awards ceremony organized by the Faculty of Medicine, recognizing outstanding contributions from academics and students.
