Our University Raised Breast Cancer Awareness with the "Pink October" Event

The “Pink October: Breast Cancer Awareness Month” event, organized in collaboration with the Acıbadem University School of Nursing Social and Scientific Activities Committee and the Turkish Breast Foundation (MEVA), was held on October 16, 2025. The event aimed to raise awareness about breast cancer among university students, academic staff, and administrative personnel, while also promoting knowledge and behaviors that support a healthy lifestyle.

The keynote speaker, Dr. Can Gürbüz, Chairperson of the Board of the Turkish Breast Foundation, shared up-to-date information on the definition, risk factors, prevalence, and lifestyle-related aspects of breast cancer. Dr. Gürbüz emphasized the vital importance of early diagnosis and regular screening. An interactive environment was created throughout the presentation through questions directed to the participants.

As part of the event, senior Nursing Department students who volunteer at MEVA raised awareness by distributing pink ribbons and small gifts they had prepared at the Pink October booth.

With the participation of approximately 130 attendees, the event represented a significant step toward enhancing public awareness of breast cancer. Participants shared positive feedback, noting that the event was both informative and inspiring.
