The Brain and Mind Laboratory's research interests focus on developing functional neuroimaging data analysis tools and methods to understand the different features of oscillatory brain dynamics in healthy individuals and people with psychiatric, neurovascular, and neurodegenerative disorders. Our long-term research goal is to develop non-invasive brain imaging biomarkers and procedures derived from fNIRS, fMRI, and EEG.
I) To understand the physiological mechanisms of brain function in health and disease;
II) To determine the effectiveness of pharmacological treatments and therapies based on quantitative parameters of brain hemodynamics and brain network functions,
III) It can be used to solve mental thought processes with real-time functional imaging data from portable wearable sensors.
Our Group's Research Topics:
• Investigating the feasibility of fNIRS as an alternative and/or complementary tool to fMRI to monitor and quantify brain physiology
• Evaluate the effectiveness of treatment interventions with fNIRS-derived biomarkers (e.g., a drug or physiotherapeutic intervention or surgical operation)
• Neural Rehabilitation Study Designs with NIRS-based BCIs
• Analysis of mental thought processes, emotional states, situational awareness, cognitive load and cognitive fatigue with fNIRS-derived BCI designs (real-time if possible)
• Improving the Sensitivity and Authenticity of fMRI Connection Measurements.
• Discovery of brain function relationships that can distinguish healthy state from disease state (i.e., neurovascular, neurodegenerative, neuropsychiatry-related.)
• Quantification of brain physiology in real time and in daily life (This can serve a variety of clinical and educational purposes.)
