The third Graduation Projects Fair, organized in collaboration with our university’s Faculty of Pharmacy, the Department of Medical Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, and the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, took place on May 28, 2024.
The fair began with opening speeches by our Vice-Rector, Prof. Güldal Süyen, and the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, Prof. Ata Akın, followed by speeches from Prof. Batu Erman from the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics at Boğaziçi University on “Molecular Biology and Genome Engineering,” and Doğan Taşkent on “Management and Innovation.”
The fair showcased 47 senior undergraduate projects from the Faculty of Pharmacy, the Department of Medical Engineering, and the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics. At the end of the fair, the evaluation committee reviewed the project posters and awarded the highest-scoring students with top prizes and jury encouragement awards.
The first prize was awarded to Batuhan Savsar, a fourth-year student in the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, for his project titled “Deciphering the Role of PSMB10 Gene Splice Variant in Dominantly Segregating Autoinflammatory Disease: Insight into Autophagy Interaction,” conducted under the supervision of Prof. Eda Tahir Turanlı.
The second prize went to Zeynep Ilgın Tozan, a fourth-year student in the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, for her project titled “Development of A Novel Cutinase With Enhanced Thermal Stability Through Protein Engineering Against Plastic Pollution,” supervised by Prof. Günseli Bayram Akçapınar.
The Jury Encouragement Award was given to Nehir Kavi for her project titled “Evaluation of Commercial Pinus pinaster AIT., Pinus massoniana D.Don. (Pine Turpentine) Essential Oil Samples According to European Pharmacopoeia 10.0 Criteria,” supervised by Assist. Prof. Timur Hakan Barak.
