International Understanding Violence: Addiction and Forensic Sciences Congress VI.

The "The 6th International Understanding Violence: Addiction and Forensic Sciences Congress," aimed at bringing together various disciplines within forensic sciences under the theme of addiction, was organized by the Violence Prevention and Rehabilitation Association (IMDAT) and Acibadem University Crime and Violence Prevention Center (ASUMA) on May 24-25, 2024, at our university. Presentations covered topics such as Substance Addiction, Tobacco Addiction, Relationship Addiction, Alcohol Addiction, Shopping Addiction, Technology Addiction, and Gambling Addiction.

The event commenced with an opening speech by Prof. Oguz Polat, Head of the Department of Forensic Medicine at Acibadem University School of Medicine and President of the VI International Understanding Violence: Addiction and Forensic Sciences Congress. This was followed by a keynote speech titled "An Overview of Addiction" by Prof. Kultegin Ogel, a faculty member at Istanbul Bilgi University and Director of the Moodist Hospital Addiction Treatment Center.

Subsequent presentations included Prof. Gokhan Oral from Cerrahpaşa Medical School's Department of Forensic Medicine and Prof. Cemal Onur Noyan from Uskudar University on "Gambling Addiction"; Prof. Ersi Kalfoğlu from Istanbul Yeni Yuzyıl University on "Forensic Sciences Approach to Substance Addiction"; Prof. Ali Murat Kirik from Marmara University on "Digital Addiction"; Assoc. Prof. Baris Oner Unsalver from NP Feneryolu Clinic on "Shopping Addiction"; Assoc. Prof. Cengiz Apaydin from Istanbul Anadolu Courthouse on "Legal Procedures in Addiction"; Assoc. Prof. Ömer Yanartaş from Marmara University on "Addiction and Trauma"; Asst. Dr. Nikola Petrovic from the University of Belgrade on "Sports Addiction"; and Assoc. Prof. Neslim Guvendeger Doksat from Istanbul Beykent University on "Behavioral Addictions in Children and Adolescents."

The congress also featured presentations by psychiatric and psychotherapy specialists from Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County and University Teaching Hospital and Jósa András Teaching Hospital. Dr. Alexander Kancsev discussed "The Relationship Between Substance Use and Psychotic Disorders," Psychiatrist Dr. António Santiago de Barros addressed "Suicide and Alcoholism," Dr. Karol Krupa spoke on "Behavioral Addiction and Online Grooming Risk in Adolescents," and Psychiatrist Dr. Dariusz A. Dalek covered "Addiction Therapies."

Specialist Saliha Koc Aslan, Director of Nursing Services at Acibadem Healthcare Group, also participated with a talk titled "Psychological Safety: Workplace."

The symposium, attended by 255 participants, concluded with a Q&A session.
