The Nursing Week Symposium, organized by the Social and Scientific Activities Commission of the Nursing Department at Acibadem University, took place on May 15, 2024, at our university. The event, themed "Our Nurses, Our Future - The Economic Power of Care" by the International Council of Nurses (ICN), aimed to emphasize the importance of protecting and investing in the nursing profession and to support our students in preparing for their professional roles.
The event, consisting of two parts, began with an opening speech by Assoc. Prof. Bahire Ulus, Chair of the Social and Scientific Activities Commission and Faculty Member of the Nursing Department. To highlight the importance of ethical decision-making in the nursing profession, participants watched the film "Lorenzo's Oil."
The second part of the event started with a special music performance by the ACU Harmony group in honor of Nursing Week. Following this, speeches were given by our student and President of the Nursing Club, Kubra Kilic, Head of the Nursing Department, Prof. Ukke Karabacak, and our Rector, Prof. Ahmet Sahin, which included messages to future nurses.
Finally, presentations by Assoc. Prof. Azize Atli Ozbas from Hacettepe University's Faculty of Nursing and Prof. Yusuf Çelik from the Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Health Management, underscored the importance of improving global health, rebuilding health systems to encompass the Sustainable Development Goals and Universal Health Coverage, protecting the nursing profession, and investing in it. The event, attended by 600 people, concluded with a question-and-answer session.
