The fourth colloquium organized by the Department of Sociology of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences for the 2022-2023 academic year took place online on April 4, 2023.
Moderated by Assist. Prof. Alper Bilgili, a faculty member of the Sociology Department, the colloquium hosted Anthropologist Assist. Prof. Mehmet Ali Sevgi, who is a faculty member in the Department of Sociology of Religion at Iğdır University.
Anthropologist Assist. Prof. Sevgi began by explaining the methodology and field experiences of his ethnographic research on the community adhering to the Ja'fari school of thought in Iğdır. He then provided insights into the historical and cultural characteristics of the Ja'fari community and their identity strategies. The discussion concluded with questions from the participants, exploring how the identities of the relatively small Ja'fari community are situated and preserved within Turkey's political and cultural context.
