The Department of Thoracic Surgery is dedicated to surgical treatment of the tissues and organs located in the thoracic cavity excluding the heart. It is primarily used for the surgical treatment of lung cancer.
Our department frequently performs endoscopic (video-assisted thoracoscopy or VATS) methods of lung cancer surgery. The single-port VATS method of lung cancer surgery, which is implemented internationally only at advanced medical centers, was performed for the first time by us in Turkey. The department successfully performs thoracic surgery using videothoracoscopy.
Academic staff members have broad international experience including presidency of the world’s largest thoracic surgery association, the European Board of Cardiothoracic Surgeons.
