Organization Chart of the ACU Biobank Unit

 

Adminisitrative Board

The Administrative Board is responsible for general management, defining strategic objectives, monitoring progress, reviewing and/or adopting policies, and developing communications strategies. As well, the assessment of the “Quality Management System” is under the supervision of the Administrative Board.

Ethical Observation Supervisor

Ethical Observation Supervisor is responsible for the ethical oversight of all biobank processes, including legal and policy issues. It also advises the Biobank Unit Supervisor and Administrative Board. When necessary, the supervisor seeks for opinions from individuals such as ethicists, scientific researchers, medical experts, legal professionals, social scientists, and the members of the public or participating organizations.

The ACU Biobank Unit Ethical Observation responsibility is carried out by Kaya Bilguvar, M.D. 


Scientific Observation Supervisor

Scientific Observation Supervisor advises the unit supervisor and the administrative board on technological developments, current protocols and current scientific research in order to operate the Biobank Unit in accordance with the most up-to-date scientific standards. In this context, the supervisor follows the infrastructure and activities of other biobanks and collaborative institutions around the world.

The ACU Biobank Unit Scientific Observation responsibility is carried out by  Prof. Ozden Hatirnaz Ng.


Scientific Advisory Board

Scientific Advisory Board provides advice, support and guidance to the Administrative Board on the advancement of ACU Biobank's scientific direction, strategy, operations and scientific mission. In this context:

  • Advises the Administrative Board on the long-term strategic development of ACU Biobank,

  • Advises the Administrative Board on specific research projects and priorities to be undertaken,

  • Provides advice and support to the Administrative Board for fundraising activities related to ACU Biobank,

  • Advises and guides the Administrative Board on the development of new technologies that may be relevant to ACU Biobank (for example, next generation sequencing technologies),

  • Advises and guides the Administrative Board on legal, clinical and policy issues related to ACU Biobank,

  • Advises the Administrative Board from a scientific perspective on matters related to research involving ACU Biobank, including access to samples and data, and publication of scientific data.

  • Meetings are convened once a year unless additional meetings are deemed necessary by the members of the ACU Biobank - Administrative Board or the Biobank Scientific Advisory Board.

Biobank Unit Manager

The Biobank Unit Supervisor is responsible for supporting and/or implementing the strategic decisions of the Administrative Board regarding biobanking and ensuring and monitoring the proper functioning of all specialized biological banking operations (e.g. security, quality, efficiency and safety in processing, storage and distribution of biospecimens).

The ACU Biobank Unit supervision responsibility is carried out by Ozkan Ozdemir Ph.D.


Laboratory Safety and Biobank Specialist

Laboratory Safety and Biobank Supervisor is responsible for carrying out the biobanking processes by considering general health, safety and security issues and to make suggestions to the Biobank Unit Supervisor for the improvement of these processes when necessary.

The ACU Biobank laboratory safety and biobank supervision responsibility is carried out by Fatma Merve Antmen, M.Sc.

 

Biobank Laboratory Technician

The Biobank Technician carries out sample handling processes in compliance with general health, safety and security issues and makes recommendations to the laboratory safety and biobank specialist and unit manager to improve these processes when necessary. Ceren Erdoğan is the ACU Biobank Technician.

Biospecimen and Data Access Specialist

Biospecimen and Data Access Supervisor is responsible for monitoring access requests, protecting the interests of participants by following the relevant procedures, and making sure that the biobank protocols are implemented properly. In some cases, biospecimen and data access supervisor can be chosen from outside of the biobank,  among independent members. The ACU Biobank biospecimen and data access supervision responsibility is carried out by Gizem Senturk, M.Sc.

Quality Assurance Specialist

Quality Supervisor is responsible for monitoring and evaluating all processes related to the biobank, making necessary quality measurements, and gathering feedback from the stakeholders on biobank processes. The ACU Biobank quality supervision responsibility is carried out by İlayda Sahin.
