Was held at A Plus Terrace in cooperation with the Department of Medical History and Ethics, in collaboration with Prof. Dr. Yesim Isil Ulman, on May 29, 2024. The aim of the event is to analyze the problems encountered in our daily and professional lives in the light of ethical principles by looking into them from a historical perspective and values in a recreational socialization environment. Many students, academicians, two invited speakers took part in the festival, accompanied by a charity bazaar, refreshments, and a musical concert.
Firstly, Mr. Dogan Gunduz, who is an engineer, science & technology historian, writer and researcher, delivered a speech titled "Children Under the Bridge" based on remarkable, historical documents, and explained the issue of orphaned children, whom the famous author Ms. Suat Derviş (1905-1972) noticed in her interviews, at 1930’s and 40’s. Dr. Gunduz narrated Ms. Huriye Baha (Oniz)'s novel named, "Children Under the Bridge" (1936) and dealt this social issue and living conditions of orphans, revealing the institutional inadequacies towards those children. The fact that the issue remains valid today had a deep impact on the audience.
Assistant Professor and Philosopher Dr. Ayse Cigdem Kocaman, from Nisantasi University, talked on "Social Media and Ethics" that occupy a lot of space in modern life at the digital age, today. She dealt with the issues of pressure, mobbing, violence on social media in view of moral philosophy based on ethical principles. She delved into the damaging effects of this phenomenon through the philosophy of human rights and dignity. Her talk raised great awareness about tackling this social and humanitarian problem, through the lense of ethical values.
