Full-time Faculty Member
Acıbadem University faculty members are expected to act in line with the University's vision and mission in the fields of education, research and service to society and the institution. Taking part in these fields is the responsibility of the instructor towards the students and the institution. In a rapidly developing university, academic and administrative managerial duties are also within the scope of the teaching staff. Although each academic unit (Faculty, Vocational School, etc.) has its own different applications, these responsibilities include all full-time lecturers.
Educational Responsibilities: Lecturers are obliged to give lectures in accordance with the academic program determined by the unit they are affiliated with in both semesters, except for the periods when official leave is taken, congress permits or administrative responsibilities. Course loads may differ between instructors and from year to year. The educational responsibility of the instructor is determined and announced at the beginning of each academic year by the Dicipline/Major Field of Study/Program/Department together with the Dean's Office/Directorate.
In terms of educator responsibility towards students, every lecturer takes equal responsibility regardless of title/seniority. Entry-level subjects do not need to be taught by junior lecturers, and more advanced courses by senior lecturers. From the first years of undergraduate education, students should be in contact with all distinguished and experienced instructors. Course loads can be determined by considering the course hours in the program and the research goals of the current staff in that academic year. The instructor who wants to spend more time on research can take less course responsibility with the approval of the department. Academics are expected to balance education and research together. Small group training, bedside training, case discussions can be alternatives to lectures, especially for the faculty members working in the clinical departments of the School of Medicine, who are responsible for serving in a hospital environment, in order to fulfill their educational duties in a way that does not interfere with clinical service. Instructors are expected to offer elective courses in their fields of interest/expertise. It is the extra-curricular responsibilities of the instructors to form a Student Research Group that students can apply to independently and to participate in the Mentoring program.
Availability of Faculty Members: The academic staff of the university undertakes to comply with the curriculum and laboratory hours determined at the beginning of the academic year, to participate in the administrative meetings of the department and faculty/vocational school and to fulfill the duties given in the commissions and committees. All lecturers are expected to be available to meet with students on fixed days and times, either regularly or by appointment. It is important that faculty members are also accessible to other academics.
Instructors cannot change the course hours and days determined at the beginning of the academic year without a valid excuse and without prior notice. Courses that are cancelled this way are added to the program as soon as possible. Instructors are responsible for preparing questions for the exams, sending these questions within the specified time, and taking part in the jury in the oral exams.
Research Responsibilities: Full-time faculty members are expected to continue their research and publish in the fields of science, in addition to their educational roles. The time devoted to research may differ among instructors. Considering different responsibilities, some instructors may carry out more research and publications in the same Major Field of Study/Department. Service Responsibilities: Taking part in the management of education, boards and commissions or in administrative duties is considered as a service to the institution. The course load of these instructors can be reduced. Duties within professional organizations and non-governmental organizations are evaluated under the heading of community service.
Full-time teaching staff, who are expected to operate in the fields of education, research and service, covers all academics registered in YÖKSİS, whose assignment procedures have been completed within the framework of the YÖK Law. They are responsible for keeping their information in the AVESIS database up to date. They are included in the Periodic Academic Performance Evaluation (PAPD) process. In this context, the periodic evaluation of each faculty member is carried out by the Dean's Office/Directorate by taking into account the previous calendar year in RESEARCH field; the academic year completed in the fields of EDUCATION/SERVICE TO THE INSTITUTION/SOCIETY and ACHIEVEMENTS & RECOGNITION.
